Outdoor Benches
Outdoor benches always help to décor the landscapes. They simultaneously provide the sitting comforts and also can be an excellent set for the relaxation. Several materials like granite, wood, cement, bricks etc are used to make these benches. These materials are usually common in the characteristics though a few exclusions can be there. If a bench is made up of wood or a stone or cement, they can be tough to sit. We have to purchase the cushion too for the comfort. Several types of wood are used to make the outdoor benches which includes redwood, teak, beech, ash, cherry, birch, mahogany, oak, maple, pecan, walnut, cedar etc. The different types of timbers also differ in their traits.
The most commonly used material for the open-air benches are timbers. So let’s make a discussion about that. It is not very difficult to work with the timber. It is very elegant in the looks and also very long-lasting. Open-air benches are sometimes made with a combination of concrete wood and veneer as it also differs according to their designs. The excellence in the way of manufacturing the outdoor benches is very important, which is apart from the value of the wood used for that. They should be firm and secure to use and the joining methods also should be excellent.
Several techniques are implemented for assembling the open-air benches. The most common is ‘tongue and groove’ method which is very strong and also good in the finish. ‘Mortise and tenon’ method usually use a hole and two pieces of wood which projects, is also widely used. Several others use a ‘doweled’ assembling where a stick of wood is attached tightly to a hole which is pierced on the wood. The ‘rebutted’ assembling includes two wood pieces located at the ankles, pasted and fastened or fixed properly using the bolts as it will help the bench for its firmness. ‘Stapling’ method used in the joints, is not a very costly item. But when the stapled benches are used frequently by the public, the clips have a chance to get liberated. This is often a disadvantage of this method.
An additional important component while choosing an open-air bench is its firmness and strength. It should be strong enough to accommodate the people of a variety of sizes. We should always make sure that the benches we purchase are very firm by checking some important aspects for this. If the outdoor bench has a back, the hand-rests on the two sides of the bench also must be strong enough. For this, the hand-rests must be extended fully to the lower part of the bench under the seat, as it will help it a lot in the aspect of strength. The legs of the bench also should be very strong and thick.
We should check the quality of the bench by sitting on that. If we are able to pay attention to any noise when we sit, it may not be a good quality. We can also check it by moving frontward and back ward to see if there is any wavering. We should also check the legs of the bench using our hands and convince that it is not wavering and making some sounds. Several companies offer the details including the materials used to make the bench, the assembling methods, its maximum weight holding capacity etc. We should always be aware of these things before buying an open-air bench.
